As a sensitive girl, she ventured into the professional world without an important advice that could have saved her a lot of heart burn. Suddenly there was a lot critical feedback coming her way and that perplexed her.
Then a mentor came along and told her that feedback is never personal. It is important and we all need feedback but we must process it with the right mindset. We have to leverage every piece of feedback to enable us to grow as professionals and as individuals.
Why is critical feedback a gift ?
Feedback is actually a gift ! It helps us to strive for excellence. It’s no point getting bogged down with critical feedback. Rather it is essential to sharpen ourselves.
Feedback and the the right mindset to deal with it is particularly essential for women who need to deal with multiple challenges in the workplace.
It is OK to be sensitive and to get affected by feedback but one has to have the objectivity to stand away from it and assess it for what it is worth. It is important to sieve the growth inputs that one can glean from feedback to implement the changes desired and to understand what to discard. In fact criticism often is more conducive to growth where as just praise can make you complacent. It is also important to understand where it is just an attempt to put you down and where it has a constructive intent.
